Watch the Clock!
I never thought that the time of day could affect my weight loss, but, SURPRISE… It does! If anyone else is like me, you have a great schedule most days, and other days is just a mess! Sometimes I have breakfast at 7am sharp, and other days I eat around 830am, and sometimes I even skip breakfast all together…oops! It wasn’t until just recently that I realized the times that I eat during the day really affected my mood, energy, and weight.
In order to kick start your metabolism (and your day), you should aim for consuming a well-rounded breakfast around the same time every day. I aim for between 7 – 7:30. It is also very helpful to chug down a tall glass of water as soon as you wake up. Ideally you should try to eat a snack or meal every 3 to 4 hours throughout the day. Most of the time I eat three full meals a day with one to two snacks in between. I aim to have lunch around noon and dinner no later than 6:30.
Skipping meals is one of the worst things you can do! Every time I skip my breakfast I am low on energy and usually end up eating some crappy quick snack later…it really just throws off my whole day! Also, skipping meals makes you hungrier and much more likely to over-indulge in later meals, which in turn can cause a spike in blood sugar. By eating constantly throughout the day with three meals and a few snacks, you keep your metabolism running and your blood sugar levels are more likely to stay constant throughout the day. Watching when you eat your last meal of the day is super important as well! Your last meal of the day should be your smallest meal and should be consumed three hours before you go to bed for the night. When you eat right bed, your blood sugar and insulin increase which makes it harder for you to sleep.
So, you if are on a weight loss journey and haven’t shifted your eating schedule yet, now is the time to do it! Make sure that you watch your clock and are eating a meal or snack every three to four hours. I know sometimes I get so busy during the day that I just forget to eat my snack or I push my lunch time back…if you do that too, then set a timer to remind yourself to eat more often! It may take some time to get used to eating more frequently throughout the day but just give it some time and you are sure to see some positive changes!
